Student Sustainability Summit 2023

On February 7th we celebrated the 9thannual Student Sustainability Summit, held at Lincoln SU! We welcomed 100 delegates from universities and colleges across the UK as well as speakers from organisations such as Demilitarise Education, Youth for Nature, and the Department for Education. It was great to have a space for so many young people to come together to learn, network, and collaborate!

Our day opened with a panel on ’Climate Justice and Intersectionality’ hosted by Zamzam Ibrahim, Tamara Ullyart, and Ahmad Yazan Miri. The rest of the day was an amazing mixture of panel discussions, creative workshops, interactive delegate discussion spaces, and networking opportunities. We couldn’t attend everything, but some of the activities we did take part in included:

·      Exploring how to use art to push for climate action and education

·      Round table discussions on themes such as food and farming, curriculum change and fossil free universities

·      Learning about the links between universities and the military, and what we can do to take action

·      Discussing how we can help tackle fuel poverty and poor housing conditions for students

We’re so happy to have been able to host a day where so many ideas could be shared and where students were able to learn so much that they’re now taking back with them to their institutions where they can continue to create real positive change for students and the environment!
