Partner with SOS-UK to test menu-flipping at your students' union

June 12, 2023

When it comes to the climate emergency and the nature crisis we can’t ignore food; it causes almost a third of all global GHG emissions and 80% of global biodiversity loss. SOS-UK's Food and Farming programme works with students and staff at students' unions, universities and colleges to equitably address the multiple crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and ill health through the food we produce, eat and dispose of.

SOS-UK, in partnership with Possible, is looking for 2-3 students’ union catering outlets, ideally accompanied by your institution's outlets, to run a pilot project focusing on flipping in-house catering menus from a bias towards meat to a bias towards vegetarian and vegan options for a trial period in early 2024, with preparations taking place in October/November 2023. The project will complete by summer 2024. We are looking to find out whether this intervention will enable students to buy fewer meals with meat in them, to help tackle carbon emissions.

SOS-UK will be coordinating the project, and we have some central costs to help with menu reprinting and underwriting any loss in sales up to an agreed amount per venue.

If you are interested in taking part, please fill this expression of interest form by 28th of July 2023 (11.59PM). If you have any questions please contact hello@sos-uk.org
