Are you a student passionate about trees and woodlands? Apply now to join our Students For Trees Council for 2022-23!

Students For Trees is a student led network, supported by SOS-UK and the Woodland Trust to help educate and mobilise students across the UK to learn about, and to take action for, woods and trees, to help fight the climate and nature crises.

The Council brings together around 15 students from across the UK to deliver a programme of events, resources and campaigns to engage young people with trees and woodlands, such as learning how to identify trees, organising tree planting days and campaigning for the protection of woodlands.

We are currently recruiting for around 10 new students to join the Students For Trees Council for the 2022-23 academic year, you can apply online by the 9th October deadline!

Being a Council member is a great opportunity to gain and develop valuable skills, join a network of like-minded students and learn how to organise and deliver events. You will inspire other students and have the chance to make a positive difference through taking on a specific role on the Council, while also working alongside expertise from the Woodland Trust and SOS-UK!

What will the role involve?

Volunteering as Council Member will involve the following:

  • Regular attendance at online meetings via Zoom (~2 hours a month)
  • Completing tasks outside of Council meetings, individually and in collaboration with other council members (typically~4 to 8 hours a month of voluntary time, significantly less during exam periods)
  • Communicating and working with a team of 10-15 students and project leaders from SOS-UK and the Woodland Trust.
  • Opportunity to join an in-person meeting at the Woodland Trust headquarters in Grantham later in Term 1 (all expenses covered)
  • Taking on a specific role on the Council, such as managing a social media channel or email inbox, community engagement, recruiting new student branches, website maintenance, events organisation or creating communications. You can view all the role groups here.
  • Helping to organise and promote a fantastic calendar of Woodland Trust events for this year, e.g. workshops for skill building, citizen science initiatives, political campaigns and free treepack applications
  • Additional opportunities to organise your own events e.g. tree planting on your own campus, as well as take part in external opportunities with the Woodland Trust.
