The DfE Youth Focal Points encourage youth voice in the Curriculum and Assessment Review!

September 27, 2024
Will Wale and Jodie Bailey-Ho

Will Wale and Jodie Bailey-Ho are the Department for Education Youth Focal Points for the Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. They work closely with the DfE’s Sustainability and Climate Change Unit to ensure that youth voice is substantially included as they implement and further develop their Climate Change Strategy, which was originally launched in 2022.

Will and Jodie are excited to be working with the Department for Education as the government's Curriculum and Assessment Review gets underway. This is an incredible opportunity to review the existing national curriculum and statutory assessment system in England, to ensure they are fit for purpose and meeting the needs of children and young people.

As Youth Focal Points, they would like to share the call for evidence, launched on 25th September 2024, and encourage as many young people to take part as possible!

This will be open until 22nd November, and invites stakeholders to share their perspective on how the existing curriculum and assessment system could be improved. Young people are specifically invited to submit their views - the terms of reference state that, amongst other stakeholders, 'the Review will be undertaken in close consultation with...parents, children and young people'. The Youth Focal Points are delighted to see this commitment to youth voice, and would like to invite as many current students as possible to take part. This is such an exciting opportunity to be part of shaping the future of our education system, and could make a real difference to future generations of young people.

You can share your views via this dedicated webpage.

Will and Jodie look forward to working with the Department for Education throughout the Curriculum and Assessment Review process alongside Minister Stephen Morgan, senior civil servants and other stakeholders, and will be continuing to share the views of young people and speak to the government on their behalf.

Will and Jodie always want to hear young people’s views and feedback about sustainability education. If you have a comment, view, or piece of feedback you would like to share, please do email them at:
