The Green Impact Students' Unions awards last night were a big success - well done to all involved, and thank you for joining us in our work for a sustainable society! 

This year was the start of a new era for Green Impact. The toolkit was redesigned to include more social and holistic actions, for example about activism and campaigning, and training and research. The NUS Sustainability team were thrilled to see how participants embraced the new Green Impact, and were so impressed with everyone's efforts. Eighty-one students' unions engaged with the programme this year, with fifty-nine reaching the audit stage.  

We celebrated the Green Impact Students' Union Awards last night as part of NUS' Students' Unions 2017 at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre.   

This year's Excellent award-winners were: 

• The Students' Union at UWE 
• University of Plymouth Students' Union 
• University of Sussex Students' Union 
• Liverpool Guild of Students 
• Christ Church Students' Union 
• University of Birmingham Guild of Students 
• Roehampton Students' Union 
• Undeb Bangor 

Among these, we awarded the two top scoring commercial and non-commercial students' unions: The Students' Union at UWE and Christ Church Students' Union (CCSU), respectively.  

Ellie Martin, Advice and Campaigns Coordinator at Christ Church Students' Union, who led on Green Impact, said, "Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at CCSU and we hope that we inspire students to leave higher education with the skills and knowledge to make a positive change to a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable future."

Jo Kemp, Green Impact programme manager said that this year "there has been an incredible commitment to cross-organisational working at each students' union," and that "the new programme has been really impactful in creating new partnerships."  

"We hope that, going forward, Green Impact will be influential in helping the sector map its positive impact on students, unions and the environment," she concluded.  

NUS Vice President for Society and Citizenship, Rob Young, said that "Green Impact is so important to NUS' work as it represents out commitment to building a just and sustainable future for all. It's great to see the positive steps students' unions have taken this year to do just that - congratulations to all!" 

We will be developing some Green Impact good practice guides over the summer to share the stand-out successes of the year. Stay tuned!
