Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) is a new educational charity that seeks to get more students leading on and learning about sustainability. Building on fifty years of leading campaigns and programmes, developed by the National Union of Students (NUS UK), SOS-UK aims to harness the desire of students and young people to respond to the climate emergency and lead society to a better future.

We’re looking for talented people who are looking for something different to support our student leaders.

At SOS-UK we strive to make our community a welcoming, caring and enthusiastic one, fuelling ambition with opportunities and support to help us all achieve our personal and professional goals. In return for your passion and experience we offer the flexibility for work-life balance, a competitive salary for the non-profit sector and excellent holiday allowance. We’re absolutely open to considering requests for job-share or part-time working.  We're a Living Wage employer, and do not offer any unpaid/non-credit bearing placement opportunities or work experience.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

We’re totally committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their age, disability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation. We particularly welcome applications from black, asian and minority ethnic candidates, as they are currently under-represented within SOS-UK.

WORK-LIFE BALANCE

SOS-UK adopts an open and flexible approach to working arrangements, with many of the current team opting to be home-based, with those that prefer the location and environment of an office space able to work in one of NUS' offices around the UK. To further support positive work-life balance, all staff are offered a generous holiday allowance and a time off in lieu policy alongside time off for volunteering.  Should you have family/caring responsibilities, we have a whole package of family-friendly policies that provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, and leave for family emergencies.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

As an organisation devoted to furthering sustainable development, it's important we practice what we preach.  To minimise our carbon emissions, our travel policy favours overland/water travel, and we abstain from internal flights within Great Britain.  Similarly, our default option is for video-conferencing/calling when communicating within the team and externally.  Also related to travel practices is the offer of the Cycle to Work scheme for employees.  When organising internal and external meetings and events, we opt for vegetarian or vegan catering from local suppliers.  We're also conscious of who we work with and for, reviewing individual clients, funders and partners' ethical and environmental practices and reputation.
