Our recent learning opportunities with staff and officers

Following on from the launch of our new Learning Academy, we kicked-off our offerings at the beginning of the academic term with Alcohol Awareness Training and our Officer Sustainability Bootcamp.

Alcohol Awareness Training

Our Alcohol Awareness session allowed staff to develop the skills to deliver training to students in topics relating to responsible drinking as well as exploring how to run a successful alcohol awareness intervention. With representatives from universities and students' unions across England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and New Zealand it was clear this was a topic of interest to universities across the world.

'I'm a hard person to please when it comes to training but this was excellent. Very informative and lots of different ideas which you can choose from to develop your own sessions.'  Attendee's Feedback (Alcohol Awareness Training).

Officer Sustainability Bootcamp

Earlier in September, eleven students' union (SU) officers and representatives, from across nine university and college unions and student associations joined us for the first-ever Officer Sustainability Bootcamp.

The two-day virtual workshop enabled participants to connect with other elected officers from across the UK, building their network and support system for the year ahead. Sessions also included campaigning, behaviour change theory, climate justice and education for sustainable development, with guests joining to speak about national campaigns that SUs can support. Officers had opportunities throughout the bootcamp to interact, share and learn with each other. Some of the projects and campaigns that SUs will be driving forward this year include the Climate Emergency; single-use plastics; sustainable food; travel; and the curriculum. We are looking forward to continue working with and supporting the bootcamp participants over the year on their sustainability initiatives.

'Great to be involved in this Sustainability Bootcamp! Excited to see and hear about the important sustainability projects ongoing this year!' - Attendee (Sustainability Officer Bottcamp).

Thank you to all participants who joined the Bootcamp or Alcohol Awareness Training!
