Our retro-fitted office incorporates a range of innovative sustainability features.
Not only does the new office provide a high quality working environment for our staff, we hope it will act as an example and inspiration to our volunteers, visitors and membership of what can be achieved in their place of work and daily lives.
A full list of all of the sustainable features of the office (and their impacts) can be found here, but here are some of the more innovative highlights:
These examples are just some of the more groundbreaking innovations we're proud to showcase. But Macadam House is fully committed to embodying sustainability throughout the building even more widely than this.
We send our food waste to produce electricity through anaerobic digestion; we flush our toilets with rainwater harvested from the roof; and we promote biodiversity on the very walls of our building with our 28 square metre green wall. And that's still not even the half of it.
Turning students' unions into hubs of sustainability at the hearts of their wider community, NUS has always being committed to practicing its own values when it comes to going green.
We think that the world-leading Macadam House is our biggest demonstration of our dedication to sustainability yet - a building which we hope inspires our visitors to do more to be greener in their lifestyles, in their communities, and in their unions.
