Further Education

A new Green Impact pilot for colleges and other FE providers

Students across further education are passionate about embedding sustainability into their education experience, but FE students’ unions often struggle to find capacity to take meaningful action.

That’s why we’ve made a new Green Impact programme especially for colleges and other FE providers. We started the pilot in 2016 with the Association of Colleges and have now extended it to cover 2017/18. The programme's been designed to be a one-stop-shop for sustainability and social responsibility change across your college, covering student engagement and campaigns, environmental management and curriculum reform. You can find our full programme outline here.

Most importantly of all, it's designed so colleges and FE students' unions can take action together in partnership, with the scheme designed specifically to thrive across further education.

We'll give you tons of support

As with all other of our sustainability schemes, we'll be here to help you every step of the way.

There is a £495 (+VAT) cost to take part in this pilot programme. This is a much reduced rate from our standard institutional programme but is more than our Students’ Union programme. This reflects the level of support and input you will get from our experienced and enthusiastic team.

Support will mostly be provided remotely, with a dedicated member of our team available throughout the year to respond to queries and share ideas along the way. We will conduct regular calls with you and your project team, as well as coordinate national teleconferences and online resources to ensure we are exchanging ideas and knowledge across the sector.

At the end of the academic year, colleges will invite some of their own students to become auditors for the programme. They will be trained online to review the work the college has taken, and will analyse evidence to see how progress has been made on sustainability, with NUS' support of course.

After the audits, the achievements for the year will be celebrated at an awards event. Ethically sourced awards for those achieving bronze, silver or gold (as well as any special award winners) will be presented as well as certificates for auditors. You can find our full outline of the support package here.

Get started today

The pilot programme for 2017-18 runs from October 2017 until summer 2018. The submission deadline will be Friday 4th May 2018 after which students will be trained as auditors to verify your results. Awards will be finalised in June 2018.

By combining the best parts of all of our sustainability projects and campaigns, and making sure it's all appropriate for a further education context, we hope this new Green Impact programme will transform the sustainability agenda across FE over the years to come.
